It took some practice (and a lot of string cheese), but Sailor got over her hesitation of the water fairly quickly. We were going to the beach for the weekend to see my family, so I thought it would be the perfect time for her to go out on the boat and swim in the sound.
She did great and loved it! Until we got out of the no wake zone. The minute the boat sped up, she panicked, and I have the bruises to prove it. She calmed down and she did the return trip much better!
There were a few essentials that I packed for her:
This life jacket- I have it in both orange and green– both can be seen clearly in water. It straps and buckles around the dog for a tight/secure fit and has a handle on top. Be sure to measure your dog’s chest and also know their weight range to pick the correct size.
Water Bottle- I had purchased some travel bowls that were suitable for water, but since Sailor likes to drag and toss them around, most of her water went to waste. This water bottle is perfect!
Water toys- We packed the Kong Water Wubba, and a retrieval dummy.
A nice, big beach towel and I think my mom secretly packed some crackers just for Sailor
